Make your everyday life fit to meditation, not the other way around

For a lot of people life is pretty fast, for some maybe too fast. You have one or more job, one or two hobbies, a family, social apps, friends and the daily stuff for household. All this needs to fit in one or two days. Often the first contact with meditation is to install some app to see what’s offered or to read through blogs. There are a lot of good advices and most sources are a good starting point to learn about meditation and the different practices of it. Unfortunately there often is a lack to make it sustainable because meditation is something you can easily integrate in your daily life and it’s just some kind additional task you have to accomplish. If you’re treading it like that you risk to lose interest in it because it will make your daily schedule even more dense. The result might be that at some point you look at your schedule and look for things to remove, most likely meditation will one of those tasks you take into consideration.

One possibility is to take some “exclusive-for-you” time. This could be a day, a few hours or a specific time span on a specific day. This time is only for you. There are no friends, no social media, no family and so on. This doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t care about those, it means that at this time you exclusively care about yourself. Maybe there is a day in week where it is very unlikely you meet your friend, maybe a day where you don’t practice your hobbies and there is a chance that your family can give you this space for yourself. If you have the feeling “now i can meditate” rather than “now i must meditate because i have stuff to do later” you will find that the experience can be much deeper. Of course this isn’t possible for everyone, but if you have those possibilities you should give it a chance. The base for a deeper meditation experience is not to make fit meditation in your schedule but to shuffle your schedule so that it fits to your needs.
